Study on family doctors in regions featured in various medias

Les mesures pour attirer les nouveaux médecins de famille en région fonctionnent is the title of an article by Katrine Desautels, a journalist for the Canadian Press, which summarises the results of a recent CIRANO study conducted by Bernard Fortin (Université Laval and CIRANO Fellow), Justin Ndoutoumou (PhD student, Université Laval), Josette Gbeto (PhD student, Université Laval) and Maude Laberge (Université Laval, CIRANO researcher).

This article, which has been covered by several media organisations, highlights the fact that the incentives introduced by the Quebec government since 1975 with the aim of influencing general practitioners' choice of practice location have achieved their desired outcome. They also point to some undesirable effects such as making family medicine less attractive than other specialties, or encourage new doctors to go into private practice.
