It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of our esteemed colleague and friend, Peter Christoffersen, from cancer on June 22, 2018.

Peter Christoffersen held a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, was a Management Faculty Professor at McGill University, and a Fellow at CIRANO.

Since 2010, he was a Professor at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, TMX Chair in Capital Markets, and a Bank of Canada Fellow.

Peter was currently working on the impacts of possible applications of new technologies – such as automated learning and Big Data – in the financial sector.

In March of 2018, he was the laureate of the 2018 Bank of Canada research grant.  Governor Poloz mentioned that "the Bank is pleased to renew its support to Professor Christoffersen whose work is very helpful to our own research program on digitalization.  Mr. Christoffersen contributes by highlighting the main issues currently faced by the financial sector".

Our most sincere thoughts are directed to his wife, Susan, his children, his family and his friends.
