Bourstad 2026: a competition and a successful launch event

CIRANO successfully hosted the launch event for the Bourstad 2026 competition, officially marking the opening of registrations for this new edition. The event brought together researchers, institutional partners, and members of the financial community, highlighting the role of the competition in promoting financial education.

The Bourstad 2026 competition will take place from February 9 to April 10, 2026, offering participants the opportunity to become familiar with financial markets through the management of a virtual investment portfolio within a well-established educational framework.

The launch evening included a conference on the 2026 economic outlook delivered by Matthieu Arseneau, Deputy Chief Economist at the National Bank of Canada, followed by a presentation by Dalibor Stevanovic, Professor at ESG UQAM and Researcher at CIRANO. 

The event was held in the presence of

  • Yves Giroux, Chair of the Board of Directors of CIRANO;
  • Mr. Denis Lalonde, journalist and Head of Content for the Investir section of Les Affaires;
  • Mr. Michel Gariépy, Analyst at the Financial Education Directorate of the Autorité des marchés financiers and Chair of the Bourstad 2026 competition jury;
  • Ms. Kim Lachapelle, Superintendent of Client Assistance and Financial Education at the Autorité des marchés financiers;
  • Ms. Julie-Andrée Côté, CFA, Chair of the Board of Directors of CFA Montréal and Honourary President of the Bourstad 2026 competition

  • Nathalie De Marcellis-Warin, President and Chief Executive Officer of CIRANO

The evening concluded with a networking dinner cocktail that fostered exchanges among participants.
