Network of researchers

The researchers and Fellows of CIRANO are all university professors and the CIRANO makes it possible to increase the visibility of their expertises and their research works. CIRANO offers an interuniversity research site for researchers and students involved in projects, a structure for organizing events, research support (access to data, access to partners for research fields), access to research professionals, access to proofreading services, translation, etc.). Almost all the universities in Quebec are CIRANO's partners, which makes it a unique place to access cutting-edge expertise, but also to encourage collaborations between researchers from several universities.

University Partners

Events

Intended more specifically for partners and an informed public. They are neither for publication in scientific journals nor for a specialized audience, but are a medium of exchange between the world of research and the world of practice.

CEO SEMINARS

The purpose of the CEO Seminars is to promote exchanges between CIRANO researchers and the leading managers of large private and public companies. Limited to sixty participants, each seminar opens with the presentation of a senior officer of a company or public body and continues with an exchange that takes, most often, the form of a free discussion.

SEMINARS AND CONFERENCES

CIRANO organizes, in conjunction with other institutions, congresses or symposia which, although designed in the academic tradition, incorporate, in most cases, transfer components for practitioners.

CIRANO SEMINARS

The quality of research and scientific monitoring pursued at CIRANO depends to a large extent on exchanges that take place during seminars where researchers from foreign universities are invited to come and present the results of their work and to exchange with CIRANO researchers on topics that affect their respective areas of research.

CIRANO MEETINGS

As part of the CIRANO Meetings, the Center's researchers share with the senior staff of its partners the main results of their research.

WORKSHOPS

The CIRANO Workshops make it possible to respond to the particular requests of the partners who wish to deepen certain aspects of the research pursued at CIRANO.

Publications

Working Papers

The purpose of the Working Papers (CS) is to disseminate the results of research conducted by CIRANO research members in order to solicit exchanges and comments. These reports are written in the style of scientific publications. The ideas and opinions expressed in these documents are solely those of the authors.

Project Reports

Project Reports (RP) are specifically targeted to our partners and an informed readership. They are not destined for publication in academic journals nor aimed at a specialized readership, but are rather conceived as a medium of exchange between the research and practice worlds.

Creation of CIRANO

  1. 1990

In the early 90’s, a cutting edge knowledge transfer project was created between Bell Canada and the arts and science faculty of Université de Montréal. This experience brought about the idea for the creation of the liaison and knowledge transfer center for the analysis of organizations whose mandate was to establish dynamic links between universities and organizations.

« ’We wish to create a new research center model whose impact on society would derive from the researchers excellence and the result of their scientific work, as well as the acceleration of new knowledge transfer to various environments. »

Robert Lacroix, CIRANO Cofounder and First President and Chief Executive Officer

  2. 1993

Professors Robert Lacroix and Marcel Boyer, both involved in the Bell Canada-Université de Montréal project, decide to take up the challenge and bring together a group of economists.

The Interuniversity Research Center, liaison and transfer of knowledge in analysis of organizations, institutions and individual behavior is submitted to the Quebec government in June 1993.

  3. 1994

By a resolution of the Council of Ministers, CIRANO is officially recognized as a liaison and transfer center (CLT). The inauguration of its offices takes place in January 1994.

  4. 1998

With the participation of Laboratoires Universitaire Bell, the largest laboratory in experimental economics in Quebec is born at CIRANO, which also provides scientific direction.
