Welcome to the new CIRANO Visiting Fellows

CIRANO is delighted to welcome three new Visiting Fellows. These new members will bring their expertise to CIRANO's research projects and knowledge transfer initiatives, thus actively contributing to the institution's outreach. The title of Visiting Fellow is awarded to professionals, managers or researchers, who stand out for their exceptional careers and unique experience.

Martine Hébert, a renowned economist and former diplomat, recently held the positions of Quebec Delegate to Chicago and Quebec Delegate General to New York.

Anne-Marie Hubert, is an experienced manager and administrator, recognized in both business and public policy circles, and a former Chair of the Board of the Public Policy Forum of Canada.

Louis Lévesque, a senior economist who has held key positions in the federal and provincial public services, was Associate Deputy Minister at Finance Canada and General Manager of Finance Montréal.

Knowledge transfer and support for the next generation of academics and professionals at CIRANO
tw The GVCdtLab research project team at CIRANO had the pleasure of welcoming International Affairs students from HEC Montréal twice. The first meeting was dedicated to a presentation of the GVCdtLab's work and methodologies, and to the students' elaboration of a problematic which they addressed by presenting their results in a poster session on the second meeting.

Launch of the French version of Marcel Boyer's latest book
tw On November 18, Marcel Boyer (Université de Montréal, CIRANO) will present the French version of his book Manifeste pour une social-démocratie et un capitalisme de concurrence (Montréal, Presses de l'Université de Montréal, 2024) from 4:30 to 6:00 pm at the Université de Montréal's Lionel Groulx Pavilion.

tw Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin, CIRANO CEO and full professor at Polytechnique Montréal, was invited to take part in the annual conference “Les nouveaux risques géopolitiques et économiques” organized by the Groupe d'études et de recherche sur l'international et le Québec (GÉRIQ). During this conference, she had the opportunity to talk about technologies and securing value chains: between resilience and vulnerability!

Charles Bellemare is nominated first Matuszewski researcher
tw Charles Bellemare, full professor at Université Laval, CIRANO researcher and Fellow, has been named the first Matuszewski researcher. The objectives of the Fonds de recherche et d'enseignement - Tadek-Matuszewski are to promote and support university teaching and research in the field of economics.

38th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Macro Study Group (CMSG)

The 38th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Macro Study Group (CMSG) will be held on november 15-16, 2024 in Montréal. The meeting is organized by the Macroeconomics Group at HEC Montréal. The goal of the CMSG is to encourage exchanges and collaborations among Canadian researchers in macroeconomics and to provide a platform for Canadian researchers, especially young researchers, for the presentation of their work.

Renewal of the CREEi Chair, celebrating its 10th anniversary

Organized by the Research Chair in Intergenerational Economics (CREEi), with its partners Retraite Québec and CIRANO, this special event marks both the renewal of CREEi and its 10th anniversary. In partnership with key research stakeholders, this gathering will highlight the significant contributions of CREEi to the study of intergenerational dynamics and human capital. The event will include a retrospective of notable achievements, followed by a roundtable discussion on the challenges and opportunities public policy presents for research. This unique occasion will bring together renowned experts for a rich dialogue on today's and tomorrow's economic issues. The day will conclude with a reception, providing a friendly space for further discussions.

Join the Behavioral and Experimental Research Group at CIRANO for their 3rd CIRANO Workshop on Experimental and Behavioural Research on December 6, 2024. Topics range from the intricacies of job seekers’ understanding of UI benefits, to investment decisions, and decision times analyzed under the behavioral economics lense with rigorous statistical analysis. The workshop will also include a series of brown bag presentations discussing proper experimental designs before rollout and data collection.

Territorial brands are strongly favored to encourage local purchasing. These include initiatives such as Maïs sucré de Neuville, Agneau de Charlevoix, Saveurs du Bas-Saint-Laurent and Aliments du Québec. But have these initiatives really achieved the desired success?
